Retronaut Favorites: Judas Priest
image

My earliest memories of Judas Priest come from seeing my dad’s original Priest posters that he has up in the stairway going down to our basement.

I also recall first hearing “Electric Eye” from when my brother and I would  play Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks The 80s on PS2.

I also remember hearing Nostradamus from when it was first released!

Around 2012, during my early days of being on Tumblr, I made a lot of friends in the 1980s metal community, and Priest was one of those bands that I got into.

I was obsessed with “Screaming For Vengeance”. I remember a time when “Hot Space” by Queen and “Screaming For Vengeance” were the only records I listened to.

In 2014, when “Redeemer Of Souls” came out, I got heavily into that album, and also Sin After Sin, Hell Bent For Leather, and Ram It Down too.

I got to see Priest 3 times for my 18th birthday!! All three times were amazing, and it was so crazy to be in the same room as them.

In 2018, I won tickets to see them on the opening night of the Firepower tour, and it was phenomenal. It happened during the crazy winter storms in 2018, which left us without electric for days, so we were living in a motel until the repairs were done.

It was a crazy situation, but it was an amazing part of that supposedly tragic time, which turns out to make that whole time a good memory instead of a bad one.

Judas Priest is such an amazing band and there’s so many eras to discover. So many great songs, and they never cease to amaze me.

As always I have a special companion playlist so you can read along and listen to some of my favorite Priest tunes too!!

P.S. I have a certain number of songs I put on showcase playlists so it’s not too many but it’s also enough, and I can’t even count how many songs were on my original Priest favorites list. It was hard, but I chose one tune from the albums, and a few bonus ones too. Priest is just too good to pick one favorite, so know that I have more than 17 favorites because everything they do is awesome.
